A Second Wind

smallyEver since the patch 3.2 and the new badges/gear/instances/etc. I haven’t really looked back at my Shaman other than the occasional “I’ll level her for about 10-15 minutes until someone pulls me into another heroic/raid for more badges”. My poor Shammy whom I love so much had been stuck at level 74 for quite some time. Well, this weekend I got a second wind and she is now half way through level 77. The best part is that I didn’t spend too long leveling her either.

Now, I use quest helper normally to help me run through quests fairly fast, but this weekend, it was turned off. I am currently questing in Dragonblight, but this weekend I didn’t set one foot in Dragonblight. One of my favorite ways to level is to just run instances constantly. Unfortunately finding groups for non-heroics is getting harder and harder and I only ended up running like one or two this weekend. So, if you’re still wondering how I managed to gain about 3.5 levels in no time when I didn’t quest or do many instances, then I’ll tell you. It’s my NEW favorite way to level…. Alterac Valley!

Yes! With the new “BGs give you experience” I PvPed my way to 77. It is totally awesome! I wish it was like this from the very start. At first I tried all the BGs numerous times trying to do the daily PvP quest and such, but I found out that AV was the best way to level. Getting 18k XP for one tower capture and 24k XP for a win, I found out that AV was leveling me a lot faster than any other BG. To top this off, Alliance has been pwning most of the days this weekend, so XP was in plethora this weekend.

Now I will tell you that there was sooooo much complaining going on in AV. All the high levels were complaining about little o’ low level people like me in there trying to level. You know what, I don’t blame them when 85-90% of the raid can get one shotted by 80s. There was one time where I was in there with Galv and two Horde 80s came in and wiped us all out…. all 13 or so of us. It was quite hysterical though. With things like that, people constantly argued back and forth because being low level and some not being AV experienced, made some games difficult.

However though, I played this whole PvP thing the smart way. For all of this I went Resto and it was totally worth it. I didn’t want to feel stupid trying to DPS as a low level and barely do any dmg to anyone, so I decided to heal other because my heals (however small at 1st) would help no matter what. After doing all this, I’m really liking Resto. It is an awesome feeling when one of your teammates is about to die then BAM! I heal em up and they pwn the enemy. I saved numerous people and not one person complained about me being there :)

There were a couple of times where the Horde were turtling and me and a few 80 DPS sneaked past the front line and captured a few towers, like a 4 man ninja squad completing a mission from behind enemy lines…. so awesome.

This is one of the few times where I say Thank you Blizz. Now once I’m 80 I can start complaining about lowbies too :)

Sakuri for President!

VOTE FOR ME!  Right now our country is suffering from numerous problems.  Times are tough, and we need solutions that will help us not only now, but in the long run!
The first thing I would like to do as president is to cut welfare.  Too many people are skimming off the taxpayers and not doing anything to show for it.  This only promotes government dependance, and I don’t know about you, but I already got a family to take care of, I don’t need to take of everyone elses.  Now some people are going to say I’m harsh because they got families to feed too, but alas I have a solution.
People need money to buy supplies for their families, and personally, I think food stamps are crazy.  I mean everyone know a days uses email, stamps of any kind should be phased out :)  So anyway, I have this idea that we should offer daily quests to all those who need money.  These quests will vary depending on location, need, and demand.  These daily quests would send any person on a grand adventure to achieve a certain goal and when they returned, they would be praised and rewarded with money.  A person could take on one or many daily quests on a given day.  So the more quests they do, the more money they can earn.  (Shhhhh!!!! I know it’s really called a JOB, but don’t tell them that, a quest sounds a lot more appealing)
To help people with the money and items they will be earning through these quests.  Institutes where people can safely store their belongings until it is time to use such things.  People can combine and form guilds and work together to help each other.  These guilds can work together for a common goal and can attend meetings in various places and help farm certain areas for high priced items and money.  However, strict rules about attendance will be made to keep things fair.  (Ok, I know these are really banks and companies, but that sounds boring, so don’t tell them that)
To help stimulate the economy, a GIANT auction house will be assmebled where people from all areas can buy and sell goods of all sorts.  Things that range from flowers to magic brews.  Metals, clothes, food, and drink will be amongst them too.  This will stimulate the need for more quests, and that results in more people doing such quests.  This auction house will help the economy grow and bring us all closer together.  (Again Shhhhh!!! I know it’s really free enterprise and open markets, but don’t tell them that, auction house sounds more lively and exciting)
Another growing concern in the country is health care.  The rising cost of health care will soon go down after people do daily quests to help farm medical supplies and such to be bought from the auction house!  Programs will be put into place were people can learn first aid and how to properly treat minor injuries and illnesses.  These first aid trainers will be positioned in every major city.  Since I plan on removing all medial practice lawyers, all repair men can now meet and agree upon regional costs for procedures.  Cost that would cost less depending on your standing with that area.  There will also be trainers for people who wish to take on healing.  These people can then lend their services at a cost of their own choosing.  The healers can also join guilds to help them in their operations.  (Yeah, I know doctors and physicians are what they are, but doesn’t being a healer sound a lot cooler?)
Lastly, if you elect me, Sakuri, as your next president, I will make sure there is PIE FOR EVERYONE!  (and if you like cake better, you can have that instead)
Thank you and God Bless,
Sakuri

An Eventful Day

allyhordbanI know!  I know!  It’s been over a month!  I apologize.  With work, new roofs, flash floods, illness, etc. it’s hard to focus on writing a blog entry.  Well I decided to take some time out of my day and write something :)
Yesterday was an eventful day on WoW.  I came home a tad early yesterday because I ate some bad food and my stomach hated me.  Well, when I got home, I logged onto my Horde pally because I wanted to run a quick heroic before my wife wanted to run heroics on Alliance.   Well when I logged on I got an immediate whisper asking if I wanted to off-tank Ulduar 10.  Now, I’ve only raiding with my new Horde guild (I know!  I’ll write an update post next) one time and that was a Nax25.  Also, I’ve never tanked past Razorscale in Uld10, so I was excited to get this chance, as well as nervous because I didn’t want to look like a total noob.  Things went awesome for the most part.  Early on I kept getting DC’d because someone was messing with the router and I suppose liked seeing me stress out trying to tank adds during the Razorscale fight and then *poof* DC!  Eventually the connection stablized and we went on to kill FL, Razor, XT, Khor, Aur, and Thor.  They were nice and explained what I needed to do and I did it well.  It was such awesome fun.  I got a new pair of shoulders for my efforts.  After Thor, I had to leave because my wife was like “lets run some stuff”.
Now on my Alliance druid, my wife was like “I’m tired of running heroics, it’s Tuesday, lets raid!”  So I was like uh….. ok.  Now back when I ran my old guild, I used to raid lead every time.  I don’t mind it, but I’ve had my fair share of bad experiences and normally try not lead any more than I have to.  Well, since I normally lead our small group of people we play with, I had to lead the raids.  I decided that I don’t care about extra loot and all we cared about was badges, so we did OS10/25 and VoA10 with no drakes up.  Easy badges, no frustration.  Getting groups for raids together on Tuesday is soooooo much easier than any other day.  We had our groups filled in no time.  our pocket pally tank and I tanked the raids, while my other people DPSed (we still need a pocket healer if anyone is interested.  Our old one left because of school).  Doing the instances were funny though.  Yesterday our pally tank had connection issues ALL day, so he would randomly drop and I would have to frantically pick up the mobs (even Sarth).  It was hilarious because our pally tanked Sarth most of the time in the lava because of his issues.  It was all fun though!
Afterwards, we decided to do some heroics.  We did UP and ToC.  The stupid “Additional instances” message is enough to make me want to club a baby seal.  It’s so frustrating.  On a normal day, we could probably do 5-6 heroics easy, but now it’s down to 2-3 depending on how often we could get in.  The heroics were funny.  The pally would be tanking (I was DPSing as a kitty in tank gear) a boss and all of a sudden the boss would run while.  “Eek!  He DC’d again!” I would hear and *poof* Bear to the rescue!  lol
All in all I had a very busy yet very fun WoW day.  Now I need to find some time to finish the two anime series I’m trying to watch :)

The End of 00Alts?!

•June 30, 2009 • 6 Comments

allyhordbanI figured that since it’s been awhile since I last posted, I would post again with a doozie!  Yesterday Blizzard had finally announced that soon they will be providing faction transfers.  For all those Allys who had a secret love for the Horde can now move over and be happy.  The same goes for the opposite direction.  I think this is a great idea, if done properly.

Now I’ve been a WoW lifetime Ally player since the game 1st came out.  I’ve leveled numerous Alliance toons and have seen most of the aspects of the game through Ally eyes.  One day my old friend rerolled Horde and convinced me that I should level a toon on Horde to play with him.  I resisted for a long time, but eventually I gave in.  The experience is totally different, but the same, at the same time.  I love it on Horde just as much as I do on Alliance.

So now I have been playing two sides.  I have dear friends on both sides.  I will be truthful though, its hard playing both.  You don’t get to spend as much time as you need on one side.  You miss out on a lot of stuff, and you have to schedule very carefully.  Playing both sides also “forces” you to play WoW more because you want to talk and interact with friends on both sides.

Right now, I’m facing a situation that will right my wrong.  For some, they can play both sides and be happy in all aspects.  I’ve been slowly learning that I’m not that kind of person.  Its hard for me to raid both sides for this long.  I’m currently taking a hiatus from raiding period and I’m loving it.  No more 5-6 days of raiding.  No more staying up way too late because raids last so long.  Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to quit WoW, nor do I want to give up on raiding all together.  I just want back in on a better schedule; however; raiding on both sides ain’t working.

So, with this new opportunity, it gives me a chance to get back to the way things were, maybe.  I would love to focus on one side and be able to fully commit and contribute and be a full part of a guild.  I can transfer one or more of my toons over and be happy there.  I can help out more in guild activities and such.

The problem with this happiness is that I need to come to a realization that friends will be “lost”.  I haven’t picked a side, if any.  Who knows, I may stay fighting on both sides.  I haven’t worked out all the scenarios in my head.  I need to talk about it with all my friends.  See what their thoughts are.  I’m friendly to all people, but like most others, I have my little inner circle of people on both sides I would love to keep.  In a perfect world I could convince all my friends from one side to go to the other, but I know that won’t be the case.

So, until we get closer to the time in which this becomes a reality, it will stay in the back of my mind and things will resume as normal.  I will keep you all updated.

The Thin Line Between Noob and Bug

smally(Sorry for the lack of posting lately.  Work is slowly driving me insane…. and when I say slowly, I mean Driving Miss Daisy slow, and my mind can’t deal with it!  If you’re going to drive me nuts, do it fast so I don’t suffer…. but I digress)

I’ve seen it, you’ve seen it, and most of us have done it.  I haven’t of course because I’m me and I know I would NEVER do anything like it.  Ask around, no seriously, I’ll be here when you get back…

See!  I told you!  Actually, you all probably don’t know what I’m talking about, but hey, that’s why I write more than two sentences.  What I’m talking about is when somebody fails because of extreme noobism but has the pride of a lion and refuses to admit it.  “This has got to be some kind of bug!”  It brings into question, where is this line between noob and bug.

“I don’t know whats going on?!  Must be a bug”  “This is bull!  This never happens!” The list of excuses and QQs can go on and on and on and on and …. well you get the point.  I was in a Nax run recently (25 man) where we decided to do Instructor Raz first because we had two priests and we wanted to get it done while we had them.  So getting there was easy enough.  Things were going smooth and I began to think that this was going to be an awesome run.  (Please not that this was my 1st Nax25 run with the new guild I was trying out).

It’s funny how things can be going so awesomely and then on a moments notice turn into a nightmare.  Normally I don’t like banging my head into the wall.  I’ve done it enough to where people question if I’m all right up there already.  So we go into this fight and we die once…. and then we die again…. and again… and again.  It was like a broken record of your favorite band that you don’t want others to know about.  You know its bad for you, but you can’t help but to listen to it again.  The loop of wipes was mind-numbing, and I’m not going to go into the reasons why I think we wiped.  However I will tell you this… it got bad enough, that we were wiping before we started the fight officially.  People would run too close in, accidentally pull, etc.  It was a total disaster.

During these numerous wipes, you began hearing the quiet quims of “This shouldn’t happen” and “Man I don’t remember him being this hard”.  Then after more wipes it got into the full fledged “This never happens!  He must be bugged” and “He’s bugged.  My mind controls never break like this.”  It was hilarity in that we were wasting time and gold because of this.  Now was it truly a bug….. or were we just noobish that night.  DU DU DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.  I guess we’ll never know :)

In a good note though.  Most of my other runs with the new guild have went well.  I’ve been in Uld25 a couple of times and it was fun.  However, this incident lingers in my head like the smell of moldy cheese.

You Know You’re Addicted To WoW When…

smhordeLet me jump right into the story and then the title will make sense to all 3 of my readers out there….

Last week I was invited to DPS Heroic Violet Hold.  Too my surprise, my buddy X was healing it.  I was like “Oh yeah!  This is going to be awesome!”  The first go around we were hit with one of the annoying bugs inside VH.  The gate guardian that guards the portal closest to the door went underground and wouldn’t come back up.  We tried everything to get the mob to appear, but nope…. we had to continue killing the new portals while killing the constant stream of adds of that one portal.  We downed one boss this way.  However, it seems too much in the end.

The second boss we got was the lovely mage boss.  The first time we fought him, the tank started on the left side and speed tanked him to the right.  This caused two problems.  The first is that the healer did have time to heal because they were constantly trying to keep up.  The second is that one of the orb came up the rubble ramp and trapped us in.  The next time we tried we had him start at the rubble ramp, but again he went too fast and we got trapped.  Finally we go him to slow down to allow the other orb to come to the rubble ramp and we pwned the boss with ease.

Now you are probably thinking “How does this go with the title?!”  Well, I just wanted to build the tension. (Well not really, but I thought I might as well tell you all how bad the run was).  Anyway, after we downed the 2nd boss, the tank started chatting it up.  During this chat of his, he mentioned that he didn’t think that VH could last so long.  He also mentioned that he wanted the legs off the last boss, and that this was taking so long that he had passed up on “a night with his wife” for the chance to get these legs.  For those who don’t get the ” “s, it means he passed on sex to have a chance at the legs!

Now, when I read this I was speechless.  I mean I know WoW is fun, and getting phat lootz, but to pass on that for WoW!  And to boot, to pass on that for a CHANCE to get a drop (which btw DIDN’T drop, I lol’d at that).  I made the appropriate remark afterwards of “You passed on a night with your wife for this….. PRIORITIES!” (paraphrased because I knew what I said but exact words escape me atm…. i’m getting old).  I can’t speak for all men apparently, but if I were in that situation… forget that….  If I were in the middle of Ulduar and we were mid-fight about to get a progression kill, and my wife “called me”, I’m sure the next thing you would hear in vent would be “Why isn’t the tank tanking?!”  I would be gone.

Maybe that’s just me?!  Is anyone else with me?!  I don’t mean to come off as a sex driven maniac, but come on.  Put both on the scale…. intimate night full of cuddling, chatting, and other things…. and WoW on the other.  How can a man not choose the 1st?!  How can a piece of loot (something you can try for the next day) can before the love for a man’s wife.  I love my wife more than anything (besides God of course), and I cherish every moment I can spend with her, especially in a more deep intimate way.

So in conclusion… add “You Know You’re Addicted To WoW When You Pass Up A Night With Your Wife” to the list!

It’s the Running of the Gauntlet

smhordeSometimes in life things go wrong so bad and so often that you have no choice but to laugh at it.  On Monday night, I definitely had one of those episodes.

After having a blast in Ulduar on Thursday, we decided to lighten up some and down some good ol’ Nax bosses.  We had only 9 people online when the raid started, but hey, that’s not going to stop us.  Pwning with only 9 people is how we roll.  So we blow through the spider wing (which we wiped once because of totem wasn’t doing its job, and we had some weird repops) and our priest got some shiny upgrades.  Next the people decided to quickly down the Plague wing next.  Oh!  Quickly was not the term for it.  Let’s use painful and long.

We were running on all cylinders pwning Noth and Heigan.  Heals were good, DPS was great, and our druid was nice enough to OT for me, and he did a great job.  We were all having a blast doing the safety dance and slapping Heigan around.  Once he did go down was the beginning of the end.

We all gathered as we were preparing to run the gauntlet.  The gauntlet, for those not familiar with Nax, is a small section in between Heigan and Loatheb where Eye Stalkers and Worms subside.  the reason they call it a gauntlet is because they respawn fairly quickly, so a group must keep going or they will have to continue to fight.  Well, we all gather, all is set, and we are off.  Things start ok… well until a couple of Eye Stalkers take out both of our healers (poor clothies).  Well, since we don’t have a lock in the group, we have no choice but to go back and run it again.  I thought it would be best that I run them through trying to aggro all I can while the rest wait for us…. man was  wrong!

At the point in time another person logged on and decided to join us to finish off the wing and down Loatheb.  So the four of us (pally, 2 priests, and a DK) line up, and go!  Run! Run! However, run as fast as they could, everyone died but one of the priest.  Luckily the DK was close enough to be rezzed, but for me and the other priest, back to the start.  Now note, when I say back to the start, I mean release and run ALL THE WAY back to place.  This is very time consuming.

Now me and this priest run the gauntlet over and over and over.  We tried everything except hacking the WoW code to turn on God Mode!  No matter how we bubbled/LoH/HoF/or any other arrangement of letters including HeLP! we could not get the priest through the gauntlet.  We had people on the other end trying to heal/run in to distract/juggle flaming swords/everything and it just seemed that fate mocked us and laughed while we vigorously tried to get him across.

As I was running out of patience, which by the way, takes quite some time, we decided to do a mass suicide and all of us try to get across again.  This time, fate must have cut us some slack for we all but one made it, and luckily they were close enough to be rezzed.  So to end the tale, we go in and take out all of our frustrations on Loatheb the Unfortunate :)  We pwned him like he stole our last cookie…. and we LOVE cookies!

Mmmmmm….. Cookies (for those who don’t like cookies, replace it with your favorite snack)
